Separation Techniques in Environmental Science

The most common reason for separating wastes at the supply is for recycling. To reduce the environmental impact of waste disposal, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encourages communities to develop methods to decrease landfill use and lower the risks and inefficiencies of combustion. Waste reduction and recycling are the foremost environmentally useful strategies to manage waste. Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) corresponding to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere may be global warming.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) could be a major strategy that may be used to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Separations could also be used to concentrate contaminants for ultimate destruction or immobilization and to get rid of contaminants and concentrate or purify them to the aim where they will be used once more and no longer be thought of contaminants.
