Desalination is a method of removing salts from water in order to produce process water, ultrapure or potable water. This is accomplished through using membranes (reverse osmosis and Nanofiltration) and thermal processes (multi-effect distillation, evaporation, and crystallization).
Water desalination processes tailored for use in industrial water treatment are discharged in the form of small scale package water treatment plants. These desalination package plants are used by some municipalities for residents in remote areas not connected to the municipal pipeline infrastructure. Both the large scale and the small scale desalination plants can be tailored to treat either brackish water or seawater.
